Hoping some of you knowledgeable folks might know something about these Phentermine diet pills.
I believe they are prescription? Does anyone know if they can affect mood and personality?
The reason I ask is this... my sister-in-law used to be a nice normal person, a member of the family for about 20 years. The last couple years she's been a right nightmare. Walked out on my brother and her three kids etc. (and that's not the worst of what she's done). But in general erratic behaviour, blaming everyone else for the trouble she's now in, etc etc.
When someone's personality changes that much you seriously wonder why. Possible answers we've come up with: drink / drugs addiction, brain tumour, mental illness brought on by something else that we can't figure out.
Anyway, my brother tells me he'd found several bottles of this Phentermine stuff lying around the house. I've been googling it and some places do say that abusing it can lead to (among other things) changes in personality, irritability, mental illness.
I'm just not sure what "abusing" means. I am hoping that some of our nurses (or any of you) might be able to explain a bit more to me.
PS - she did used to work in a doctor's office (before she got fired) so it is possible that she had easy access to all sorts of stuff I guess _________________ "For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and lau.gh at them in our turn?" |

Here is an excerpt from the FDA's drug information website about phentermine. The language is rather dry and clinical, but I'm afraid the news is not good.
Drug Abuse and Dependence
Phentermine hydrochloride is related chemically and pharmacologically to the amphetamines. Amphetamines and related stimulant drugs have been extensively abused, and the possibility of abuse of Phentermine hydrochloride should be kept in mind when evaluating the desirability of including a drug as part of a weight reduction program. Abuse of amphetamines and related drugs may be associated with intense psychological dependence and severe social dysfunction. There are reports of patients who have increased the dosage to many times that recommended. Abrupt cessation following prolonged high dosage administration results in extreme fatigue and mental depression; changes are also noted on the sleep EEG. Manifestations of chronic intoxication with anorectic drugs include severe dermatoses, marked insomnia, irritability, hyperactivity and personality changes. The most severe manifestation of chronic intoxications is psychosis, often clinically indistinguishable from schizophrenia.
I hope and pray that your brother can find a way to get her off this stuff asap. _________________ Never underestimate the power of positive nudity!

oh crap!
Thanks for that MG - that is not good news.
Well they are nearly divorced now. My brother is just trying to hang on through that - she is now after the kids' education funds! He at least has custody of the 11 year old. The other two kids are over 18, but the oldest will not even speak to her now. _________________ "For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and lau.gh at them in our turn?" |
